The District continues to monitor, assess and restore the rivers and streams that are the lifeblood of the local community. For the past eleven program years, Taos SWCD has led the way in advocating sustainable and innovative methods for stream channel restoration. The District utilizes natural channel design methods and is currently educating local landowners about the benefits of such practices. These methods not only work better for the ecosystem, they also preserve the aesthetic beauty of the river, improve the adjacent riparian habitat and are more economical than traditional designs.
